SURFACE TENSION: MAKING PAPER CLIPS FLOAT
We put a paper clip on the edge of another paper clip and lowered it gently into a bowl of water.
It didn’t sink because surface tension held it afloat. That’s why so many insects are able to walk on water.
DOES AN ORANGE FLOAT OR SINK?
Does an orange float or sink in water? We began by filling a large bowl of water and placing an orange in the water. The K5 kids discovered that the orange floats. Then we peeled the orange, removing the rind. Next we placed the unpeeled orange in the water and guess what? It started to sink!
The rind of an orange is full of tiny air pockets making it float on the surface!
INTERNATIONAL VIDEO CONFERENCING FOR PROJECT POLAR BEAR CONTEST
Last Wednesday we joined the Virtual Award Ceremony by videoconference. We were able to connect with five other participating schools, and with Marissa Krouse and Alyssa McCall from Polar Bears International. Although there were some technical difficulties and interferences at the beginning it was amazing being connected with each other in one place while spanning 3 countries, and all to celebrate the passion and commitment to saving Arctic sea ice! Alyssa McCall, a biologist, answered our questions regarding Polar bears.

We finished the videoconference from the teacher’s room because it lasted until 5.18 pm!

We’ve made super soap bubbles today using straws, water and dish soap.

HAVING FUN COLOURING POLAR BEARS
In K3 Science we’ve been having fun colouring polar bears. Have a look at the pictures!
COLOURED ICE CUBES TO SHOW PRIMARY COLOUR MIXING
In Science K5 we have learnt that blue and yellow make green and red and yellow make orange. We have also seen what colours make purple! Today we have used coloured ice cubes to get the same results. Look at the outcome!
