In our Science class we have been watching anaglyph images!
We have used special red/cyan 3D glasses in order to observe different planets of our solarsystem, images of the moon and many others.
We even have watched some 3D videoclips and have taken a ride on a virtual reality roller coaster. Have a look, we have had so much fun!
In Science K5 we have been learning that inside a drop of water that you might collect from the sea are very tiny organisms. These tiny and often not so small living things are called zooplankton and phytoplankton.
We have living zooplankton in our Science Lab in preschool: mysid crustaceans, artemia (brine shrimps) rotifers and copepods.
We also have been listening to the story: Felipe the Flamingo, that isn’t pink because he does not eat artemia.
Flamingos get their pink colour from their food, the artemia.
One of these days we are going to observe our zooplankton under the microscope!
We are so thrilled!
This week we are meeting the 4th graders in the computer room.
They’ve created games with Scratch about polar bears and their habitat in their ICT class.
Today we’ve had our first get together. We’ve had a lot of fun and we’ve learnt a lot. Polar bears eat seals, factories pollute the air and the ice is melting!
Today we have fed our Californian red worms. They are in charge of composting and they are eating quite a lot of school kitchen waste. Lettuce, tomatoes and carrots are their favourite food but they do not like cabbage at all! Amazing!
Have a look at our vermicomposting box. The worms like hiding and don’t like direct light.
The worms and composting are also part of our Project Polar Bear.
This week in our Science class we built a 3d structure with toothpicks, apples and potatoes. Teamwork was very important to reach our goal. Look at the outcome! We did a great job.
The “botijo”is one of the most interesting bottles or jars ever seen. It’s made of porous clay with the intention of holding and cooling water. Its best claim to fame is that it keeps the water cool under really hot conditions and even better, it never changes the water flavour.
Botijos are ecological and you do not need fridges to cool the water and you can also reduce the plastic waste.
Our carbon footprint is being reduced too.
“Botijos” are an important part of our Polar Bear project 2016/2017!
We’ve started to learn how to drink which is quite challenging and we’ve had so much fun.
Today we’ve made soap from recycled oil! This laboratory experiment is part of our Polar Bear Project.
Students from the 1st year of A levels have shown us how to make soap.
This is their recipe:
250 g of recycled oil
250 ml H2O
5 g salt
35 g caustic soda
some drops of lavender water
colourant
It has been so amazing!

In K5 Science we have built a balloon rocket. We’ve had so much fun! Here are the instructions:
-Thread one end of the string through the straw
-Tie each end of the string between two solid supports such as a chair, table leg or door knob, making sure it is strung tightly.
-Blow up the balloon but do not tie it.
-Holding the opening of the balloon closed with your fingers, tape one side of the balloon to the straw so that it hangs horizontally below the string.
-Get ready for launch and let the end of the balloon go. Watch as the air escapes and sends your balloon rocketing across the string track!

In Science K5 we took water and oil, mixed them together and shook as hard as we could- and you know what?
The oil always floated back to the top.

Today in our Story time class we’ve listened to the story DIARY OF A WOMBAT.
We’ve learnt that a wombat is an Australian animal that looks like a little bear, but smaller. Its favourite pastimes are digging holes, eating and sleeping.
But where exactly is Australia? We’had a look at the globe!
